Prayer: Blessed Rain

È “He makes the wind blow and makes the rain descend.”

                                                        —–Artscroll Siddur

Af-Bri, the one who recalls

The strength of rain from the

Heights of Eden,  O hear the

Prayers of tear-stained faces

Slip into fancies; apples, dates

And pomegranates swell with

A motley coat of sweet colors

Inescapable drought spoils

Olive and orange groves

Hardens corn and oats and

Women, covered with a thin

Layer of dust, carry infants

In a bundle of filthy rugs

Trembling in fear of disease

Entrust their pen in its most

Sacred pleas,  Fill granaries

With barley and wheat, markets

With beef, lamb, honey and milk,

Strike volatile clouds like Moses

On the rock veiling virgin waters

To honor chagim and Shabbatot.
