so fragile this child

eyes too large hair shorn

mouth unable to smile

asleep on a mud floor

encircled by cinderblocks

in too big pink t-shirt

bare feet dirt encrusted

yet in one tiny earlobe

a silver circle

promise of better

somewhere somehow
