Thinking of Darfur

The teapot is steaming, whistling.

Shortly, my green tea will steep.

I’m at work this quiet night,

moving words around virtual paper.

The fan turns its blind face

in heavy July air.  I know there

are places on this earth where screams

of terror happen even inside of dreams,

fear so relentless, no amount of crying

will ever abate it.  How little words do

inside the square of my screen.

No life will be saved here tonight

as I type.  And yet, I still hope the peace

I send into the world as steam isn’t nothing.
