In A Photograph, From Africa

 

 

a crouched child

                  hugs his thin legs

                                       with his thin arms

 

            opens his mouth

                             but not to speak

 

near the child

            there is one tree

                         bare and black

 

one tree    no grass    lots of sun   no weeds

 

beside the tree

                    to the left

                                there is a vulture

 

there is only one reason he is there
